Assessments for young children with visual impairments are challenging and seldom validated. This presentation will introduce two assessments that were not developed specifically for infants and toddlers with blindness or low vision, but have been used successfully in practice and provide valuable information. The two assessments include the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) and the Parenting Interactions with Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes (PICCOLO). These assessments are observational and can be completed during in-person or virtual home visiting sessions. In considering these alternative assessments, practitioners can support families with targeted, developmental information that helps them to see appropriate outcomes with greater understanding of next steps.
