The 2013 Congenital Muscular Torticollis Clinical Practice Guideline (2013 CMT CPG) set standards for the physical therapy management of CMT, improving outcomes for infants with CMT. Per international standards, this CPG was updated in 2018, and again in 2024 based on critical literature appraisals and expert opinion. In this session, we review the 2024 CMT CPG with a focus on the 17 action statements and the new supporting evidence on education, referral, screening, examination and evaluation, prognosis, first choice and supplemental interventions, consultation, discontinuation from direct physical therapy, reassessment, and discharge. We will provide an overview of the management of positional plagiocephaly (PP) including screening, intervention, and referrals. To support attendee participation and discussion, video examples will be highlighted throughout and paired with opportunities to clinically assess and interpret findings. An emphasis will be placed on quality improvement and implementation resources, including resources available through the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy to facilitate knowledge translation of the CMT CPG and PP Best Practices to clinicians, parents/caregivers, medical providers, and academic programs. Attendees will generate a strong understanding of evidence-based management of infants with CMT and PP that will immediately impact their clinical practice and improve their clinical outcomes.
