From Our Noses to Our Toes: Exploring Nature Through Our Senses

Description

This workshop begins with a look at appropriate use of the outdoor environment for young learners, and emphasizes taking time to stop and use the senses of seeing, hearing, smell, touch and taste to explore the world of Nature.
We will provide opportunities to participate in activities that stimulate the senses, provide relaxation, and allow children to develop in all domains. Our goal is to help adults to guide children to find opportunities for learning in their own backyard, and to develop what Howard Gardner has named their “Naturalist Intelligence”.
This workshop includes suggestions for bringing the outdoors into the home. The literacy connection will be provided with the book from Green Start “the five senses”. Each participant will receive a copy to take home.
The workshop will incorporate use of games, music and hands-on activities (including make-and-takes) to help adults who work with our youngest children to provide a nature connection to everyday activities and stimulate curiosity.
