Infant Feeding and Assessment

Description

This training gave an introduction to feeding and assessment for feeding for the premature infant. The presenter reviewed how to assess the child for feeding readiness, including descriptions of state controls and stress cues. Videos, pictures, and hands-on experimentation assisted in the identification of feeding readiness as well as how positioning affects the infant's comfort level and ability to have a coordinated feeding pattern. Presenter reviewed the BABIES model of feeding assessment and readiness along with resources from other states for therapists and families.
