Description |
This training prepares staff to support families in becoming increasingly self sufficient.
Daily decisions that parents make shape the future of life for themselves and their children. For example, decisions about education, a job, finding child care and getting the child there, contraception, and well-baby and other medical care
all help determine a family’s quality of life. Decisions that increase self-sufficiency promote a healthier life for the family.
This training provides staff with an overview of family self-sufficiency and the kinds of decisions a parent has to make on behalf of his or her family. Using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs as a foundation for understanding basic human functioning, this training examines the learning, motivation and sense of accomplishment that takes place as families begin to function at higher and higherlevels. Participants learn discussion and goal-setting techniques that promote thoughtful approaches to decision making. The training also provides strategies for ensuring follow-up on community service referrals and coordinating with other service providers working with the family.
