This presentation discusses several aspects of autism, and answers many of the most frequently asked questions about the disability. The workshop will include an overview, including history, causes, and parent issues, as well as a detailed discussion of the differences and similarities in the pervasive developmental disorders (Autism, Asperger’s, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Rett Syndrome and PDD-NOS). Additionally, successful treatment strategies are reviewed to teach social and communication skills and deal with behavior problems through several case examples. Other areas covered include prevalence statistics, co-existing conditions, resources and lifespan issues for children and their families.
