| Description |
As SLPs, pediatric healthcare providers, and families, all we want for tracheostomized children is to have opportunities to access their voice and to swallow safely. We know that speech and oral feeding are top concerns of parents once their trach-dependent children leave the hospital and work to build developmental skills. We can provide access to voice and support safe and strong swallowing through use of a tracheostomy one-way valve, when working as a team to evaluate/ introduce, and establish regular wearing. We can train, coach, and reinforce caregivers to continue consistent wear through the discharge and transition home to support the development of vital communication and feeding skills.
