Description |
This short session will provide an overview of communication development and the impact of childhood visual impairment and/or deafblindness on communication and concept development in early childhood. This information provides a foundation for approaching the EI Vision & Hearing 2021 main conference session “Supporting Early Communication Development for Young Children who are Deaf-Blind and/or have Multiple Disabilities.” The emphasis will be on understanding incidental learning and the stages of early/pre-symbolic and concrete expressive communication, and considerations for determining sensory preferences and access points for young children with diverse sensory challenges.
