Early Intervention: Motor, Balance, and Social-Emotional Skills (Da Costa - Live Interactive Webinar)

Description

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the prevalence of children with developmental disability has increased by 17% and approximately 1 in 6 children in the United States are diagnosed with a developmental delays. As therapists, we know it is imperative to provide effective, hands-on strategies to children as early as possible in their natural environment. We also realize that environmental constraints such as the back to sleep program and the decreased tendency for floor time (container syndrome) is further increasing the likelihood of developmental delay. It is crucial to fully understand typical development and provide age-appropriate interventions and strategies for a child to maximize his/her functional potential.

This hands-on, interactive course will provide an in-depth look into the early intervention environment. We will review typical development and common diagnoses clinicians are likely to encounter. Through hands-on practice, this course will allow therapists to use play and exercises to perfect skills to improve tummy time, sitting balance and protective reactions, functional grasp, facilitation of creeping, and gait strategies. Through videos and class discussions, therapists will learn strategies for difficult to treat conditions such as toe-walking and the late walker. Following this course, the therapist will be more confident and comfortable treating a child with developmental delay and provide effective strategies to caregivers to maximize a child’s overall development.
