Description |
Feeding concerns are often reported by parents long before pediatricians tend to refer them for an evaluation. EI professionals will learn how to screen for “red-flags” based on caregiver report and observation, as well as the basics of typical developmental sequences for oral motor development as it relates to feeding skills in the child’s natural environment. Our primary focus is on the use of a screening tool with specific questions that shed light on the child’s experiences, and the family’s feeding practices, to determine if developmentally appropriate exposure to tastes, textures, and utensils has been provided. We will discuss factors that indicate whether general feeding strategies or an evaluation by a specialist (SLP, OT, Dietician, etc.) is recommended to meet the needs of the child and family.
