Parent Perspectives on Supports and Barriers to Occupational Participation in Children with Disabilities

Description

Occupational participation facilitates motor social , emotional and cognitive development throughout childhood. However, children with disabilities are reported to experience lower levels of participation as a result of additional barriers and fewer supports to occupational participation across home, school and community settings. Although the link between occupational participation and disabilities has been established, studies describing supports and barriers for occupational participation for children with Down syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) remain limited. In this session, we explore parent perspectives on participation in children with autism and Down syndrome diagnoses.

A review of the presenters Doctoral Capstone Project will be discussed along with results of their cross-section survey,
