Supporting Toddlers with Auditory Sensitivity

Description

Auditory Sensitivity, or hypersensitivity, is perceiving sounds more intensely and continually than others. It can impact a toddlers attention, behavior, social participation and learning. In this training, occupational therapists will learn:
*Best research regarding what is happening in child's neurological system to cause this sensitivity
*Frequent Triggers of auditory sensitivity
*Key strategies to teach parents, caregivers and siblings
*Ways to support toddlers through this intense sensory overload

A case example will be provided to support the content presented.
Finally, through discussion, practitioners will be guided to reflect on how the content can be applied to their practice with children and families in Early Intervention.

In training, occupational therapists will participate in a variety of didactic and discussion-based activities to:
? Evaluate the best individualized strategies for young children (0-3 years) through in-person and virtual interactions
? Identify approaches to integrating strategies into everyday activities and family routines
? Apply the approaches through personal reflection on interactions with children and families in early intervention
