Description |
This class focuses on touch, NuPoint (head tracking), Look (eye tracking), and switch scanning options available in Accent devices with Empower software and the NovaChat. Participants discuss vocabulary, hardware, and software considerations when setting up an alternative access method for an individual who uses augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Learning outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
* Describe the four access methods available in PRC-Saltillo products.
* Name two software customizations that can be applied when using NuPoint or Look.
* Describe the process for adjusting scan patterns on the Accent device
* Name two auditory or visual feedback options available in NovaChat devices.
There are many individuals who can access augmentative alternative communication (AAC) with the touch of a finger. However, there are also a significant number of people with more complex physical disabilities that require an alternative to touching a screen, or may just need adjustments to touch feedback to be successful.
This five-hour class will give participants an overview of access method options in AAC. Using case studies, the following access methods will be reviewed: touch, NuPoint (cursor is controlled by head movement), Look (cursor is controlled by eye gaze), and one/two switch scanning. Through demonstration, videos, and audience participation attendees will learn about vocabulary, hardware, and software considerations when setting up an alternative access method for an individual.
This class in intended for professionals, parents, or individuals who use AAC who want to learn more about
access method options in AAC.
