Description |
Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is the leading cause of visual impairment in children ages 0-5 in the United States. Children with CVI require specific interventions to participate in activities across all developmental domains. Once careful assessment has been completed, families can use the known characteristics of CVI to adapt materials and modify teaching strategies for their children. This session will include a description of the defining characteristics of CVI, how it differs from ocular impairment, and some practical strategies that families can use during everyday routines. Finally, I will introduce a systematic approach to understanding complexity and how it plays a role in the visual functioning of a child with CVI.
