What Parents Want : Utilizing Sensory Challenges as a Case Example

Description

This workshop will focus on what PARENTS want and have been defined as both wants and needs by much evidenced based research. Parents' experiences of challenges, supports, stressors, wants, and hopes have been researched by many fields of psychological study utilizing many measures such as subjective report, quality of life inventories, stress indicators etc., and most research reveals common themes in 'what works' for parents.
It is important to distinguish 'what works' for parents from their own viewpoint, as opposed to what providers may 'think' parent's need.
In this workshop, we will utilize a general discussion of a child presenting with sensory challenges as a case example to explore what might be useful, and what might not.....for a parent receiving early intervention services.
Please note : This is not a training on sensory processing/regulation.
This area of focus will be utilized only to illustrate a case study of best practice intervention in terms with working with parents - as the primary agent of their child's development. While sensory challenges will be briefly discussed - they will be used only to 'set the stage' for best practice family focused intervention services.
