Supporting Families and Ourselves during the Pandemic - May 2022

Description

Having a child who qualifies for EI in and of itself places stressors on parents. For example, parents must forge multiple new relationships with therapists and weekly schedules must be modified to accommodate interventionists. For the past 18 months disruptions caused by the national health crisis, subsequent economic crisis, and social unrest have added incredible stress for parents and early interventionists. And for many families living circumstances present additional stressors (e.g., limited economic resources, limited family supports, dangerous neighborhoods) making it difficult to fully engage in the EI program. This workshop will utilize a case consultation model along with self-reflection to explore strategies that might support parents in managing stress and assist service coordinators in self-regulation and personal stress management. A small group of service coordinators (5-10) will share their experiences with families on their caseload and discuss stress management techniques. The group will then discuss how to intervene with parents and which interventions they wish to adopt in their own lives.
