Parent Participation in Responsive Feeding Therapy: Helping children succeed with family-centered intervention

Description

Infants and children are designed to learn to eat as part of a dependent dyad. The relationship, which involves communication, attachment, support and co-regulation, is an important part of developing healthy self-regulation and a positive relationship with food. Despite the fact that therapists are communication and developmental specialists, many feeding therapy interventions miss the importance of the home mealtime environment or fail to support the relationship in a way that allows it to flourish.

Heidi and Jeni will highlight the evidence supporting parent coaching, and will use videos and case studies to demonstrate practical strategies that involve parents as key players in the therapeutic process. They will share specific coaching strategies that shift the focus from "training" parents to developing parents as partners and leaders in their child's progress for short and long-term success.
