When Reflux Becomes Complicated: Interventions for a Breastfed Infant

Using a case study format, we present baby Jasmine, a 4 month old with troublesome reflux that is causing her breastfeeding to decline and her growth to falter. We'll be reviewing the latest research and sharing our experience to offer practical, family centered interventions to continue to promote breastfeeding and improve growth, all while effectively managing symptoms.

1) Look beyond her weight and use accurate percentiles and z-scores:
Learn how to use WHO cut-off indicators and ASPEN’s pediatric malnutrition indicators and when and how to estimate a patient’s ideal body weight

2) Assess intake in a breastfed infant:
Learn the clues we use to help with approximating intake and calculating catch-up growth requirements

3) Review of the latest evidence on management of infant reflux:
Learn how to implement NASPGHAN’s pediatric reflux guidelines

4) Choose the best evidenced-based interventions:
