Trauma Informed Care for the Littles

Description

Theories surrounding the consequences of traumatic experiences for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and even babies still in the womb have evolved significantly in the last 20 years. The goal of this 6 hour training is to equip and empower providers to begin to consider a trauma informed reality in their treatment of early intervention families. We will provide a broad overview of brain development and current research models as a basis for understanding. Trauma treatment approaches will be discussed as well as impacts of trauma across the lifespan, so that providers can educate parents and caregivers about possible concerns as children grow. We will then delve into special considerations in the early intervention population including topics such as strategies for identifying concerns; awareness of possible triggers; ways to engage these children differently; strategic responses to “behaviors” and how trauma effects family systems.
