The Parent Professional Relationship

Description

This workshop will consist of discussion centered around strategies to help build a positive working relationship between the family and the EI professional. Families receiving early intervention may be experiencing stressors related to their child's development, management of a complex health system, issues within the family system, and a myriad of other possibilities that may require a shift into the use of various coping strategies. By understanding the role that defense mechanisms play in creating a workable stress management system, the provider may gain better insight into how individuals cope. This will in turn help providers gain more insight into parent/provider interactions and potentially give them a deeper understanding of the various ways people may respond to life challenges.
