Children with Down Syndrome: Understanding their Medical and Developmental Needs

Young children with Down Syndrome are almost always referred for early intervention services with in the first year of life. Children with Down Syndrome often have developmental delays in most developmental areas. In addition, the can have medical challenges that require special intervention and/or surgery.
For this seminar, Dr Ochoa will offer current updates on the developmental needs of children with Down Syndrome and common medical difficulties. He will share information about current research he is involved with where individuals with Down Syndrome are being given medication that are increasing their cognitive capacities. Lastly, he will answer questions that EI providers have regarding children with Down Syndrome.
