Pediatric Use of a No-Leak Speaking Valve from Mechanical Ventilation to Decannulation

Description

This workshop is designed for the multidisciplinary team and provides clinical information regarding the basics of tracheostomy and the impact on physiology in children from birth to 18 years of age. Advanced techniques for successful assessment and placement of a no-leak speaking valve on patients with tracheostomy, both with and without mechanical ventilation, will be discussed. Clinicians will learn how to use a no-leak speaking valve to direct airflow through the upper airway and the impacts on physiologic functions, including voice, secretion management, and subglottic pressure in infants and children. Case studies and group discussion will be incorporated to complement the lecture and enhance the learning experience for all attendees.
