Development of Pediatric Independent Gait

Description

This course details the key prerequisites to walking as well as the typical progression of walking throughout childhood, highlighting the expected changes with time and maturation of walking in the first year. This course will discuss how to best provide experiences to promote motor learning and motor development, in particular allowing the use of trial and error and promoting variability when practicing a skill, an approach that can easily be implemented in the home and as part of family routines. Therapists will learn ways to help the family facilitate strengthening through doing family friendly activities that promote similar muscle activity as what should be present during gait.
