Description

Supporting Neonatal Instrumental Swallowing Assessment: How to Integrate Leading Scientific Principles to Maximize Diagnostic and Therapeutic Yield
The increased incidence and prevalence of newborns, infants, and children with feeding and swallowing disorders has resulted in increased use of instrumental swallowing evaluations. Speech Pathologists that are interpreting these exams must have extensive knowledge about high-risk neonates, infants, and children to aid in decision making and recommendations. The videofluoroscopic swallow study and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing study are the most commonly used forms of imaging for this population. In this presentation learners will be provided an overview of use indications for these two complimentary exams, followed by a deep dive into the most up to date research guiding their procedural execution, interpretation, and resulting treatment recommendations. Case examples and instrumental images will be utilized and guided by audience participation throughout to aid in the translation of these research findings into clinical application. Participants will have the option to view this as a LIVE event on May 14, 2020 or as a REPLAY/self-study from May 15-July 31, 2020.
