The NICU and Early Intervention: Services and Experiences Afternoon session

Description

This training will review the infant’s and family’s experiences in the NICU because they are relevant 2 particular ways that impact service delivery in Early Intervention. First we will address what the infant and family go through in the NICU in order to help inform providers on everything from developmental care of the neonate, to the social-emotional impact of the NICU experience on a family, and then a referral to Early Intervention. This will include current research updates. Second, we will examine the way therapeutic services are delivered in the NICU as part of a rehabilitative, medical model versus the way therapies are provided in Early Intervention. This has implications for parental expectations and satisfaction, and the need to explain EI philosophy and practice as a coaching model in the most natural environment.
