Book review of: UNIQUELY HUMAN A DIFFERENT WAY OF SEEING AUTISM BARRY M. PRIZANT, PHD

Description

February will be a book club month for EI Provider Learning Community. Order your copy of Uniquely Human by Barry Prizant or get it from the library. We'll have discussion questions posted on our facebook group throughout the month of February and a live/online discussion Thursday, February 27 from 1-2:30.

In his book, Uniquely Human, Barry Prizant “an internationally renowned autism expert offers a new and compelling paradigm: the most successful approaches to autism don't aim at fixing a person by eliminating symptoms, but rather seeking to understand the individual's experience and what underlies the behavior.”

Online, via the EI Provider Learning Community Facebook group, each week in February, there will be questions to facilitate discussion around the 12 chapters of the book. Participants are encouraged to comment and share clinical experiences. A live/online Zoom meeting will be hosted on February 27 to further discuss how the readings have impacted their understanding of individuals with autism, how we as providers can communicate and interact differently with families of children with autism, how we can better teach/support children with autism given their unique learning styles, strengths and prepare them as they go through different developmental stages.
