Alternative Augmentative Communication in Early Intervention

Description

This training will discuss the importance of giving a voice to kids in the EI program when a speech generating alternative augmentative communication device is appropriate (SGD). We will discuss and dispel myths about using AAC and discuss the benefits of getting an early start. We will look at options to obtain a device while participating in the EI program and attendees will have hands on training with 3 different devices from professionals on those systems (Tobii Dynavox, Saltillo, PRC).

This AAC training will address principles to engage and collaborate with families and providers on implementing effective means of communication which is supported by evidence based research for toddlers 12-24 months. This will assist in offering providers knowledge on best practice in order to offer the highest quality of services possible.
