Description

This course introduces the DIR/Floortime Model® developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Dr. Serena Weider as a means to evaluate, clincally reason, and plan integrated, multidisciplanry interventions for children who present with complex developmental challenges including severe sensory processing disorders, regulatory disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. The DIR/Floortime Model® is a family centered, developmenally informed, relationship based model that addresses the biologically based individual differences of the child through discipline specific therapeutically guided interactions with the child. The process of addressing the child’s developmental differences within the contex of the first six of Functional Emotional Development Levels using Floortime® interventions will be described and demonstrated through lecture, video demonstration, and case based discussion. Methods for integrating parents directly into the treatment process through parent coaching and partnering with the parent in therpeutic activities will be discussed and demonstrated thourgh video examples. The theory and practice are informed by current developmental research and the methodology is evidence based (see references).
