Description |
While focusing solely on picture exchange is certainly beneficial for many children, successful outcomes using this approach still leave children unable to communicate in sentences and unable to say what they want to say when they want to say it. The challenge still remains on how to transition children to a more comprehensive communication system. Parents and educators often say things like “he is stuck at requesting”, “she is only asking for things”, “we can’t have a conversation beyond I want or I see.” And most often it is “I want to know what he is thinking” or “how can she tell me if something is wrong?” Recently gaining momentum is the notion that it could be beneficial to incorporate picture exchange with core vocabulary in a low-tech AAC system for non-verbal children who are not functional communicators.
This seminar will introduce the Core Vocabulary Exchange System™ (CVES). Participants will learn how CVES™
addresses these concerns of parents, educators and therapists by providing a means for children to transition to a more comprehensive communication system. Participants will leave this seminar with the knowledge and an approach to successfully implement a comprehensive, low-tech AAC program.
