Course Description:
Hypotonia or low muscle tone is characterized by ‘floppiness’ and decreased resistance to passive movement. Congenital hypotonia may be central or peripheral in origin and the therapeutic management of these two types is distinct. Central hypotonia may have a genetic basis such as Down syndrome or the cause may be unknown. This course will identify and evaluate the evidence supporting interventions, including equipment, used by physical (PT) and occupational therapists (OT) to improve sensory and motor outcomes for children with central hypotonia.
