Cultural Diversity

Description

Cultural Diversity
This training will include viewing the film Babies, a documentary film by Thomas Balmès that follows four newborns through their first year after birth. Two of the babies featured in the film are from rural areas: Ponijao from Opuwo, Namibia, and Bayar (jargal) from Bayanchandmani, Mongolia, and two are from urban areas: Mari from Tokyo, Japan, and Hattie from San Francisco, U.S. 60 minutes.

This will be followed by a guided discussion addressing cultural diversity: cultural relativism, a look at expectations of milestones, standards for evaluation, patterns and outcomes of development, and dealing with our comfort level with these differences. How do these support or undermine family engagement and inform our work in Early Intervention.
