Neonatal Touch & Massage Certification Phase III Hands-On Training

Description

Neonatal Touch & Massage Certification (NTMC) Phase III Hands-On Education is the final phase for completing this advanced neonatal competency. NTMC is a exclusively neonatal certification for RNs, PTs, OTs, and SLPs that combines a holistic, neonatal and systems theory approach to touch and massage with an emphasis on families and nurturing opportunities. It is designed to elevate the standard of care provided daily by neonatal practitioners in order to optimize the infant developmental outcomes, maximize parent comfort and confidence, and further the
knowledge and skill of neonatal therapists and nurses.
Phase III Hands-On Training focuses on enhancing the knowledge, understanding, and hands-on skill needed for advanced neonatal caregiving. The two days will utilize videos to sharpen participants’ observation skills of high-risk infants, help them identify common stress signs and caregiving activities that cause stress. The participants will develop a more in-depth understanding of preterm and term infant development and how their touch, handling, treatment, and caregiving can alter that development. Specific techniques related to neonatal touch, massage, myofascial release, and trigger point releases will be taught to facilitate normal alignment, movement, and comfort of the high-risk infant in the NICU. Finally, the participants will learn how to incorporate families in their treatment plans to facilitate parent-infant attachment for long-term optimal development.
