Join the Conversation: Occupational Therapy Perspective on Evaluation in Early Intervention

Course Description: Come and join your OT colleagues in an ongoing conversation about current and future OT practice in EI in Illinois. Occupational therapy practitioners working in the Early Intervention Program in Illinois are challenged with balancing the requirements of the State of Illinois Early Intervention Program with recommended best practices within the field of occupational therapy. This course is the second of a series defining OT practice in EI in Illinois. Together we will explore best practice guidelines for the evaluation process from AOTA and the state of Illinois Early Intervention Program. These guidelines include AOTA recommended evaluation practices from the OTPF and AOTA Documentation Guidelines (2018) and sections of the Provider Handbook from the Illinois EI program (definition of OT, acceptable assessment tools, evaluation report format). This event will include discussion of assessments that are approved by the state of Illinois and tools that assess occupation and participation. Sample OT EI evaluation reports that provide examples of documenting occupation and participation will be reviewed. The overall goal of this series of discussions is to build on a vision for future best practice in EI in Illinois and to develop an action plan for next steps for the series.

Participants do not need to have attended the first session in this series in order to attend this second session.
