PTSD in Parents in Early Intervention - What Can We Learn - How Can We Help?

Description

For families with medically complex children, each day can be a story of survival. Parents' lives are entwined with the medical system that keeps their children alive and the Early Intervention System that helps them address their child’s unique needs and challenging day to day care giving routines. Yet, so many of these families are under supported when it comes to identifying and treating the ongoing effects of trauma and uncertainty related to their own health and well being. This two hour workshop will look at the prevalence of PTSD among caregivers of young children with life threatening and life limiting conditions. Case based discussion will assist in applying this knowledge so Service Coordinators can better support these families in the Illinois Early Intervention System.
