Interoception: The Eighth Sensory System

Description

This course will detail what is termed “the eighth sensory system,” interoception. This sensory system allows one to feel internal organs that give us information about the internal state or condition of the body. It discusses the roles of self-regulation and sensory processing, which are common areas treated in the Early Intervention population and with children with autism. Participants will learn of assessment and treatment procedures that can be utilized for children demonstrating reduced interoceptive awareness. A case study will also be presented detailing the assessment process, treatment techniques, and outcomes.
