We are all perfect professionals who employ just the right approach for connecting with the children we are trying to serve. Except when we don’t. Or when our best just can’t reach them because their experiences of trauma in early childhood make connecting with us particularly challenging. While it is frustrating if we miss the mark with these kids, we don’t need to give up. Instead, we can move beyond traditional approaches to engaging to therapeutic engagement – consciously using as many interactions as we can to create healing opportunities – and increase our sense of professional success. In this workshop, Billy Kaplan, LCSW, will help us understand behavior of the young people with whom we work in new ways, and he’ll help us learn new approaches for reaching our kids using the skills of therapeutic engagement. Billy will utilize the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) recommendations for Trauma-Informed Organizations.
This is considered a 2 day training including both 8/3 and 8/9. Both days are REQUIRED in order to receive ANY IL EI credits!!!
