Parental Engagement: Why Can it Look So Different?

Description

The first step to supporting children and families with early intervention services and support is to engage the young child's parent or parents. The engagement process can look very different from parent to parent and family to family. Why is this so? Although providers and service coordinators would expect some variability, sometimes the differences in parental engagement and parental responses can be hugely different. Why is that? Why is it that some parents appear to have increased concerns and expectations that are outside of EI parameters and other parents don't follow through or appear indifferent to the process and planning. How are we to best support families when we see varied responses? This workshop will address the differences and why they exist.
