Medical Diagnostics As An Entry to Early Intervention

Dr. Smith discussed the increase in families seeking out private medical diagnostic evaluations and gaps within systems that result in families having not been referred to Early Intervention. Dr. Smith reviewed parental concerns and developmental concerns that may be present at the evaluations, and the referral process for families into the Early Intervention program. Dr. Smith also provided some points for reflection and discussion for Service Coordinators in working with families who come into Early Intervention having already received a medical diagnostic evaluation.
