Preterm and late preterm infants present unique feeding challenges within the NICU and special care nursery settings. This presentation will discuss these challenges and how they relate to the assessment and treatment of feeding disorders within the infant population. Focus will be on the use of a cue-based feeding approach and model.
Objectives:
? Participants will describe common factors impacting feeding skills in preterm infants.
? Participants will explain homeostasis and how it relates to cue-based feeding in infants.
? Participants will identify five common distress cues associated with feeding difficulties.
? Participants will explain strategies to optimize feeding potential and safety in preterm infants.
