Spring Symposium

Description

We have 2 workshops:
#1 - Magnificent Manipulatives: Create a Game - Tammy Notter
Many fine motor game ideas will be shared! Participants will view a variety of games made from inexpensive, easy to find and recyclable materials. After viewing games, they will identify a benchmark from the IELDS (IL. Early Learning & Development Standards) that best demonstrates the intention of the game. Participants will create their own game. They will receive specific supplies and will be able to choose their own intention for the game.
I can include IELGS, if we have any professionals attending that work with two- year old.
Learning Objectives & Assessment of Objectives

1. Participants will identify at minimum 1 benchmark from IELDS that can be demonstrated with the use of a fine motor game. 1. Participants will view a variety of “homemade” fine motor games and identify at minimum 1 benchmark from IELDS that is demonstrated when the game is in use. Participants will view at least 10 games for this assessment.
2. Participants will plan, choose at minimum 1 benchmark (IELDS) that will be demonstrated by the game they create. 3. Participants will create their own game using specific materials provided.

#2 - TITLE: Allowing Nature To Nurture - Jennifer Rosinia PhD OTR/L
The evidence continues to grow – nature is good for the brain! Actually, connecting with natural world is good for the body, the mind and the spirit. It’s an unfortunate reality, childhood has moved inside. In this workshop we’ll explore some intriguing concepts such as why dirt is good for the body and how simply adding green spaces will help to enhance the well being of young children as well as the people who care for them. The concept of green exercise will be introduced as this workshop as a catalyst for enhancing curriculum. Don’t let the feel good aspect of this topic fool you – this is real science!
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By participating in this workshop participants will:
