Building Blocks to AAC - Block 1: Speech & Language Development, Vocabulary and Motor Planning

Description

In this 90-minute class on augmentative alternative communication (AAC), participants will learn about the basics of speech and language development and the role of AAC in this process during foundational language learning stages. Additionally, the definition and importance of specific classes of words will be discussed and demonstrated through hands-on activities. The class will conclude by reviewing the benefits of organizing vocabulary in such a way that motor plans for words, automaticity and speed can develop. This foundational class will set the stage for AAC intervention that focuses on language acquisition in addition to communication.

This class is intended for anyone interested in learning about the fundamentals of AAC.
