Description |
A clinician's role is to support the family in determining goals that are relevant to each individual family. This requires insight into developmental foundations, active listening to families, an ability to measure objectives to determine effectiveness, how to facilitate skill acquisition, and how to generalize goals into various routines and settings of importance. Therapy has not stopped when the child masters goals in the structured therapy environment. There must be a focus on guiding parents and generalizing goals to many other settings. Clinicians should be able to support and empower parents to go to the museum, park, and restaurants.
This workshop will focus on how to establish high quality goals, how to measure them to ensure effectiveness, and how to generalize these objectives across people, activities, and environments. There is an emphasis on supporting the family's needs and how to conduct effective therapy in other environments.
