Description |
The use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) services and supports with very young has children has been growing over the years, but that growth continues to be slow due to limited training for professionals and the number of myths regarding appropriateness of AAC for children in Early Intervention. This workshop will provide an introduction to the hardware, software, and support from Prentke Romich Company. Access methods available on PRC products, including direct selection, switch scanning, NuPoint, and NuEye will be shown, and current devices will be available for hands-on exploration. Participants will learn about the connections between language development, core vocabulary and AAC. The Unity and LAMP Words for Life vocabularies will be demonstrated, giving participants an understanding of which software options are appropriate for different clients. There will be a brief opportunity for hands-on implementation practice. Finally, product training, implementation support, and other resources will be reviewed.
