Real Ethics

Description

Description: Ethics is currently a hot topic in the news, but speech- language pathologists also face ethical quandaries. ASHA feels this is so important to our profession that they will be requiring 1 CE in ethics in order to renew your Certificate of Clinical Competence, beginning in 2020. The ASHA Code of Ethics defines acceptable conduct in the profession, yet the ASHA National Office handles approximately 3,000 ethics inquiries per year. SLPs may be confronted by other’s professional behavior that doesn’t adhere to the ASHA Code of Ethics. This program will discuss current ethical issues facing our members, assist practitioners in identifying possible ethical violations and how to use a model to determine a course of action.

Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the content of the current Code of Ethics
2. Identify common ethical inquiries
3. Apply a model for ethical decision making to real-life situations
4. Learn how to file an ethics complaint to ASHA
