Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation

Description

Parents as Teachers Foundational Training is a three-day introduction to the PAT prenatal-to-three family support model. It explains the groundwork for understanding the PAT philosophy and theoretical framework and provides the training for staff to be able to implement PAT personal visits.

Programs seeking to be affiliates of Parents as Teachers are required to complete a program plan and have staff complete the two-day Model Implementation Training as well. Foundational Training is encouraged but not required for new supervisors.

Parents as Teachers Model Implementation Training is a two-day enhancement to the three-day Foundational Training. It lays the framework for understanding and implementing a program with model fidelity. This training discusses the PAT Quality Assurance Guidelines, essential program requirements and program-quality elements such as reflective supervision and core competencies. In addition, Model Implementation Training builds on the PAT home visiting core component by discussing the remaining three core components: group connections, screenings and resource networking. Affiliate vs. Approved User StatusParents as Teachers has developed two pathways for programs that desire to use the PAT model. For programs that cannot or choose not to implement the model with fidelity, Parents as Teachers has provided a path for Approved Users. Staff in these programs must take at least the three-day Foundational Training. Once they have completed this, they are permitted to describe themselves as PAT Approved Users and will have full access to the online curriculum.Programs that seek to implement with model fidelity can pursue the Affiliate path. Programs seeking affiliation must take both the three-day Foundational Training as well as the two-day Model Implementation Training. Upon completion of the five days of training, programs are designated as Affiliates, and staff members who have completed the five days are designated as certified. Affiliates have full access to the online curriculum.Supervisors are required to complete the Model Implementation Training and are encouraged, but not required, to complete the Foundational Training.
