Description |
Dr. Smith discussed how relational behaviors and attachment present themselves in children with autism. He provided examples, the first reviewed parent-child interactions, reciprocal communication, joint attention and social referencing. The second example dealt with children who lack close, personal relationships in the early years of life. Discussion included children who had spent time in an institution or were adopted and little is known about their early life. Dr. Smith discussed when a medical diagnostic would be appropriate for these children
