Positioning for Optimal Performance

Description

Did you know that the position in which a person finds him or herself will influence the quality of the work they perform? It’s true! And, when we are talking about very young children, positioning becomes even more important. This workshop will begin with a brief overview of the contemporary positioning practices which are having a dramatic influence on a young child’s overall development. After learning some important concepts and principles related to movement and positioning, participants will have opportunities to brain storm practical applications of the information provided in the home as well as a variety of other settings in which young children find themselves. Finally, the ways in which materials from home can be transformed into positioning devices will also be included.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants in this workshop will be able to:

? Identify and describe developmental positions
? Explain the ways in which current positioning practices are resulting in motor delays and distortions
? Discuss the role of proper positioning on developmental skill acquisition and performance.
? Describe principles of optimal positioning
? Design positioning devices that can be made from materials found in a child’s home
