Description |
The nature of relationships between a family and a provider in early intervention has changed significantly since the days when service provision was professionally dominated. Employing family-centered practices with those who are culturally diverse, however, can present unique challenges.
In this workshop we’ll begin by looking at definitions of culture and explore our own culture as a means for opening up a conversation about the ways in which cultural values, beliefs, attitudes, traditions, and standards of behavior impact Early Intervention service delivery. An important aspect of cross cultural competence is not so much what we learn about other people, but what we learn about ourselves and our reactions to other people.
