Helping Children and Families Thrive at the Table

Description

This presentation highlights the struggles that many children face as a result of sensory processing disorder (SPD). Sensory Processing Disorder can make it hard for children to thrive at home and to enjoy mealtimes with their families. This workshop seeks to give professionals a working framework of how to identify and conceptualize sensory deficits in children. The presenter will help participants apply critical thinking to guide intervention in particular ways.

Program Objectives:
Participants will identify how to support the infant-parent relationship during feeding therapy. Participants will understand key concepts relating to introduction of solids including choice of solids and timing. Participants will demonstrate emerging knowledge of identification of treatment typically occurring feeding difficulties including texture sensitivity and sensory-motor delay. Participants will gain practical skills necessary for developing and helping parents to implement recommendations when therapy is not taking place.
