Infant Motor Profile

Description

• Purpose: introduction and training in a new observational instrument developed in the Netherlands to evaluate motor abilities and movement variability, symmetry, and fluency for infants 3 – 18 months of age.
• Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
o Expand observation skills to assess gross and fine motor development in infants at 3 to 18 months of age
o Integrate the observation of spontaneous motor behavior into current assessment skills and develop reliability in distinguishing variability, symmetry, fluency, and adaptability in infant movement skills
o Improve ability to identify infants with movement dysfunction by observing spontaneous motor behavior in supine, prone, sitting, standing, walking, and reaching / grasping

o This training in qualitative movement observation for infants 3-18 months has been well received in Europe, but not widely available in the US.
o Dr. Hadders-Algra presented this course in 2014 at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, the first time offered in the US
